In a video obtained from the Sarikait area of South Sandwip on Wednesday (May 20th) afternoon, it was seen that waves 7-8 feet high from the Bay of Bengal were crashing on the Sandwip coast.
Local resident said. Moin Uddin said, ‘Huge waves have been crashing on the sea shore since last night. A large part of the dam in our Sarikait area is broken. The sea is rising with the tide. The wind is blowing hard. God knows what will happen when the storm starts. '
Meanwhile, locals recovered the body of a young man who was swept away by the tide of cyclone Amphan in Ward 2 of Sandwip Municipality around 12 noon on Wednesday.
The name of the young man killed. Salauddin (18). He is the son of Abul Kashem of Honaji's house in Ward No. 2 of the municipality.
It is learned that Salauddin was swept away by the tidal waters due to the impact of cyclone Amphan while he was cutting grass for cattle in Char.
According to the meteorological office, it was located 420 km southwest of Chittagong seaport, 430 km southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport, 200 km southwest of Mongla seaport and 250 km southwest of Payra seaport.
Meanwhile, due to the cyclone, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to show danger signal number 10. The coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Laxmipur, Chandpur and their outlying islands and chars will be under Emergency Signal 10.
Chittagong and Cox's Bazar seaports have been asked to lower the danger signal number 8 and show the danger signal number 9 instead. The coastal districts of Noakhali, Feni, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar, their outlying islands and chars will be under the Great Danger Signal 9.
